The Sage Story...
For years many fisherman have known that Sage fly rods are in
a class of their own. In fact, their RPL series of rods back
in the 90’s changed the way fly rods were designed and fished.
They have continued this tradition with the XP and SLT and the
recent releases of the TCR, XI2 and TXL models.
In 1980, Sage began producing fly rods with designer Don Green
leading the way. Sage began not only pushing the design envelope,
but the graphite and materials envelope as well. Sage was the
first company to incorporate the use of IM6 (Graphite II) graphite
in their rods. Technology progressed into graphite III, IV and
now with IIIe, which is a blend of both graphite III and IV.
To date, graphite IIIe has the highest strength to weight ratio
on the market.
Sage and their employees have always felt that high performance
and smooth casts are one in the same. Many manufactures believe
in feeding the public’s demands for stiff rods, which lack in
feel and control. Not Sage! Sage rod owners will attest that
these rods offer the critical blend of action and feel giving
you extraordinary line control. These rods give you the ability
to place your fly where you want it-- with confidence!
Sage’s recent releases of the XP & SLT are winning fisherman’s
hearts with their incredibly light tip top sections. These rods
are effortless with laser accuracy. They are characterized as
exceptional casting rods that allow both the novice and the
expert to enjoy them tremendously. The TCR rod series was developed
for fly casters who can honestly call themselves experts. These
rods are absolutely a dream and are the highest performance
rods for “high compression” strokes. What a rod! After 3 years
of development, the Xi2 saltwater series continues Sages dominance
in the performance fly rod industry.
Sage not only offers some of the highest performance rods in
the world, they also have one of the most complete line of machined
reels. Sage realized the need for properly sized and weighted
reels to fit on their rods. Too many reels on the market are
not properly balancing with Sage’s super tip light rods. The
3000 series of reels gives you the size, weight and maintenance
free construction which today’s angler deserves.
Located on Bainbridge Island Washington, Sage has grown from
less than ten people, to now over 130 employees. All of the
rods in the Sage line are manufactured under the same roof.
On average it takes thirty-five days and over one hundred separate
hand steps to produce a single rod. All Sage rods come with
